Vor Kurzem haben die Demokratischen Kräfte Syriens (SDF) – unterstützt von der US-geführten Koalition – eine Reihe von Ortschaften im Norden von Rakka befreit – darunter Al-Fatsah, Bir Sadr, Bin Hammud, Abu Kabra und Matmasraja.
Zunächst wurde berichtet das sich einige “amerikanische Kämpfer”, offenbar Sondereinsatzkräfte der USA, um die militärische Operation zu koordinieren in den Reihen der SDF befinden.
Allerdings bestätigen Berichte, dass die Sondereinsatzkräfte an den Gefechten gegen Truppen des Islamischen Staat aktiv beteiligt sind und de facto die kurdischen Kräfte anführen. Sie tragen Abzeichen der YPG/YPJ, um damit mutmaßlich ihre Präsenz zu verschleiern. Allerdings sehen diese Soldaten nicht aus wie Kurden.
