Laut regierungsfreundlichen Quellen sind die Regierungstruppen die vom 800. Regiment der syrischen republikanischen Garde geführt und von der russischen Luftwaffe unterstützt werden entlang der Grenze zwischen Palmyra und Dair ez-Zor 30 km vorgerückt.
Die Republikanische Garde hat Berichten zufolge alle Hügel mit Sicht auf diesen Abschnitt der Autobahn eingenommen und sich nun in dem Gebiet stationiert. Sollten diese Berichte bestätigt werden, wäre dies ein wichtiger Gewinn, und eine Bestätigung für den Zerfall der IS-Defensive in Zentral-Syrien.
Anfang dieser Woche sind Berichte erschienen, dass die Armee und ihre Verbündeten die Kontrolle über die komplette Straße von Resafa nach as-Suchna übernommen haben und in der Provinz Homs somit eine zweite IS-Tasche etabliert haben. Allerdings gibt es diesbezüglich keine Foto oder Videobeweise.
